Suspected cattle rustlers kill two in Laikipia

Two people have been killed and one other seriously injured by suspected cattle rustlers in Laikipia County.

The trio who are county officials were attacked along the Laikipia nature conservancy ranch. They are reported to have encountered the bandits who were fleeing after carrying out the raid. Police have since launched a man hunt for the attackers.

It is reported the trio including Laikipia west sub county administrator Ikinya Matindi who survived the attack were on official duty when the incident happened.

Those killed in the attack included an employee of the Kenya Forest Service and an officer in charge of enforcement.

The trio are reported to have been victims of circumstances as the rustlers shot at them as they attempted to flee after stealing cattle.

Just last year  a convoy of anti-stock theft unit officers was attacked at the same spot along the Laikipia nature conservancy leaving six people dead.

According to Ng’arua District officer Rufus Kihara two of the officers died on the spot while the sub county administrator was rushed to Nyahururu county referral hospital with gun injuries on the left eye. A contingent of law enforcers was deployed shortly after to pursue the suspects.

The area leadership led by the governor Nderitu Muriithi condemned the attack pledging to ensure regional peace.
