Talanta Fc main target is to earn promotion, says head coach Ken Kenyatta

National Super League, NSL, side Talanta Fc head coach Ken Kenyatta says the team is resolute with its ambition to earn promotion to the Kenyan Premier League  next season.

The club is currently ranked top of the 20 team NSL standings on 44 points, a point ahead of second placed Kenya Police FC . Two top teams at the end of the season earn direct promotion to the top flight.

‘’First and foremost my target is to get into the Kenyan premier league, that’s what we are planning’’, Ken Kenyatta  spoke to KBC Digital Sports.

Kenyatta, a former Kenyan international goalkeeper who joined Talanta Fc as head coach on a two year deal this year recognizes the tough task ahead.

‘’The league is very tough ,because you barely get room to prepare, its game by game until we are there, it’s like a marathon you have to play as you plan, one game at a time, any team ranked between 1st-9th position  can win the  league, it’s possible because the difference is two or three points so it’s a tricky league , we need to step up and win every match to earn promotion’’, Kenyatta added.

The head coach attributes the good form the revamped squad is enjoying to their ability to switch their mindset and respond to his tactics accordingly.

‘’One thing about   players is  about the mindset, and the way you relate and talk to them is what matters most. Another thing is how you prepare the team, If you keep the focus you will definitely get yourself to the top’’, Kenyatta remarked.

Leading club’s  goal scorer this season Barrack Odhiambo who has netted eight goals says  adequate preparations coupled with discipline has been key to propelling the side to top of the log.

‘’preparation and discipline have been key to our good run, under coach Kenyatta discipline is crucial and that’s why together with some members of the team who understand coach Kenyatta we have helped the rest of the squad to follow suit ’’,Barack quipped.

‘’Determination has been also been crucial, players have put in work though some matches have been tough, but we still remain hopeful’’,added defender Nicodemus Malika

Talanta Fc beat Modern Coast 2-1 on Sunday to go top of the standings on 44 points, with a game in hand .

‘’Yesterday’s win   boosts our morale ahead of the forthcoming games which we hope to win to continue leading the standings’’,Nicodemus said.

Talanta  is set to face off with Muran’ga Seal this Saturday while their closest rivals Kenya Police will play Nairobi Stima in their forthcoming NSL fixtures.
