Tallying underway in Mathare Constituency after Wednesday chaos

Vote tallying continued smoothly on Thursday in Mathare Constituency after chaos rocked the process the previous evening.

As of 11:00AM, results from 100 of 184 polling stations had been tallied in the constituency.

The process was twice disrupted yesterday over rigging claims. First at around 6PM when UDA agents alleged ballot boxes had been tampered with.

Then later at 11PM when IEBC Presiding Officer from Ngei PAG polling center was caught trying to torch series A forms.

Police quickly intervened before things calmed things down. While addressing the media, the constituency Returning Officer Lucy Munyiri reminded presiding officers of their oath of secrecy and said they should avoid such shameful incidences as they have a deadline to meet.

She instructed the 15 ballot boxes involved in the melee be put aside where they will be examined by the police, agent, observers and other interested parties after tallying the rest of the results to bring to book those trying to deny Kenyans their right to vote.

Two presiding officers are in police custody over the incidents.
