Communities in Tana River have been challenged to shun retrogressive cultures and embrace education as a tool that will help them eradicate poverty.
Speaking at Madogo area during a funds drive for a student who is expected to travel to China for studies, County Education CEC Abass Kunyo urged parents to educate their children as she called for concerted efforts from other stakeholder.
Kunyo urged parents to take education matters seriously especially for the girl child as she called for all stakeholders to partner with government and ensure all children who have attained school going age are in school.
The CEC also urged the community to shun retrogressive cultures such as FGM saying the girl child should be allowed to make their own choices.
Radio personality Ambia Hirsi challenged the locals to closely work with education stakeholders, civil society in uplifting education standards especially for the girl child in the region.
