Television journalist Jacque Maribe fit to stand trial

Television Journalist Jacque Maribe is fit to stand trial in the murder of Monica Kimani in her Kilimani apartment.

According to her lawyer Katwa Kigen, this was confirmed after a mental fitness assessment that was done on Thursday following a court order on Tuesday.

He said that Maribe will now take plea together with her co-accused Joseph Irungu alias Jowie who is the main suspect.

Kigen said they will seek documents from the prosecution so that they can begin their preparations.

High Court Judge Jessie Lesit ordered on Tuesday that Maribe be remanded at Lang’ata Women’s Prison and Jowie at Industrial Area Remand Prison until Monday when they will be produced in court to face murder charges.

The Judge also directed that the key suspect Joseph Irungu alias Jowie be taken to Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment after his lawyer Cliff Ombeta told the court that his client needed medical treatment for a bullet wound sustained during an alleged attempted suicide.

The duo was arraigned in court last Tuesday, following approval by the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji who was satisfied with the evidence gathered by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to prosecute them.
