Police are hunting for three suspected carjackers who fled during a dramatic shooting that resulted in the death of three of their accomplices.
The six member gang is said to have carried out a series of carjacking’s targeting public service vehicles in Naivasha.
However their luck ran out when officers acting on a tip off descended on them just a day after passengers who were enroute to Nairobi from Nakuru were robbed.
Naivasha Deputy OCPD John Kwasa said they suspect the three are part of a group that is behind a series of robberies along the highway. He said that acting on a tip off from members of the public, the police managed to corner six suspects killing three while the other three escaped.
Kwasa said that they are tracking the other suspects who fled with gunshot wounds and called on members of the public to assist with information that may lead to their arrest.
The three youthful carjackers were shot dead near Naivasha slaughterhouse located along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway moments after carjacking a group of passengers and robbing them.
Police managed to recover mobile phones and other effects stolen from the passengers. The Saturday evening incident came a day after another group of passengers were robbed on the same highway while on their way to Nairobi.
In all the incidents, two thugs posing as passengers would board a matatu in Nakuru in the night and on reaching Naivasha, they would ask to be dropped only for their accomplices to strike.
