A joint security operation is underway in Mandera County following Wednesday’s kidnapping of three people by suspected Al Shabaab militants.
The three were kidnapped along the Fino-Leafy road while onboard a bus that had left Mandera town en route to Lafey when they were ambushed in a remote area between Fino and Sheikh Barrow.
The militants are said to have separated the locals from non-locals before ordering the locals to get into the bus and proceed with their journey.
They then fled towards the Kenya-Somalia border with the three men.
Confirming the incident, Mandera County Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha said a contingent of security personnel are tracking their movement even as he assured that the government has put in place measures that will ensure non-locals willing to travel within the region do so without fear.
