Three killed in Garissa, Isiolo border row

Three people have been killed following a border row pitting residents of Garissa and Isiolo counties.

Hundreds of residents have since fled their homes in fear of attacks. Leaders are appealing to the government to intervene and quell the situation that is threatening to spiral into full scale clashes.

The border row pitting residents of Garbatula in Isiolo County and their neighbors in Lagdera, Garissa County has escalated following the alleged killing of three people in Eldera over the weekend.

Tension is high along the common border with hundreds of residents fleeing their homes for fear of retaliatory attacks.

Leaders from the area are now trading accusations over the surging animosity amid allegations of incitement.

A section of elected leaders from Isiolo county urged security agencies to move with speed to restore security and investigate leaders accused of incitement

Separately, Nairobi county regional commissioner Kangethe Thuku has issued a 30 day amnesty for residents in Dagoretti North to surrender illegal firearms in their possession.

The directive comes in the wake of rising cases of insecurity in Kawangware area 56, of Dagoretti north constituency, in the past few months.

The commissioner also launched a toll free number where the public can alert police officers and other security agents on security threats.
