Residents of Turkana County have petitioned Parliament to allocate funds for the construction of at least three dams and three boreholes in Namoniangikala, Lokomori and Moruita.
The petitioner filed by Loima MP Jeremiah Ekamais said residents have persistently sought assistance from the Government and non-Governmental organization the construction of dams and drilling of bore holes in Turkana County with no avail.
He noted that residents of Loma and Turkana West constituency have always migrated to neighboring districts of Uganda in search of water and greener pasture for their animal.
The Loima MP noted that for the last 40 years, pastoralists in those areas have suffered due to lack of basic necessities including water for domestic use and for livestock.
While contributing to the petition MPs urged the Government to put in place measures to ensure that Kenyans don’t have to cross over to Uganda for water and greener pastures.
