Tusker FC best contender to win Sportpesa Premier League title

Tusker FC will need only two wins in the last four matches to secure the 2016 Sportpesa Premier League title should Gor Mahia fail to beat Western Stima in their match at hand on Wednesday.

Tusker FC have won 14 of the 26 matches they have played so far this season and lost just three and sit comfortably at the top of the table on 51 points thanks to their hard faught win over Bandari in Mombasa on Saturday.

Tusker have nine draws to their name and the record is slightly better than defending champions Gor Mahia who sit second on 44 points having won 12, drawn 11 times and lost just two matches this season.

With Muhoroni having lifted the top eight title, Gor Mahia may miss out on Premier League glory should Tusker continue with their winning run.

Chemelil Sugar are third on the table on 42 points, two points above Western Stima who are 4th while Mathare seal the top 5.

Ulinzi Stars, Posta Rangers, Kakamega Homeboyz, Sony Sugar and Muhoroni Youth line up in position 6-10 respectively. City Stars and Sofapaka remain bottom of the table, while the Good Hope FC extended their lead at the summit of the Sportpesa-Mombasa Super Eight Premier League after registering a comfortable 2-0 win over Cross Roads in Mombasa. Mohammed Mwamlandi and Gift Vitalis scored for the leaders.

In other matches, Wananyuki narrowly beat LYSA 3-2, Bamburi United edged Likoni Spurs 2-0 while Umba Sports beat Boca Junior 1-0. The league has been sponsored to a tune of seven million shillings by Sportpesa and champions will walk away with a cash prize of half a million shillings, while second and third placed finishers pocket 300 and 100 thousand shillings respectively.
