Two arrested in park trespass incidence

Two people have been arraigned in a Voi court after being arrested in connection with a trespass incidence at Ndiandasa in the Tsavo East National Park in Taita Taveta County.

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) operations team arrested 21-year-old Yakub Mohammed Bona and 30-year-old Abdi Kadir Mohammed both of whom hail from Tana River County and booked them at the Voi police station.

150 cows were also impounded in the operation.

Bona and Mohammed were charged after the judiciary team visited the holding boma for the cattle and were fined Ksh 100,000 or six months imprisonment in default.

Abdi Mohammed Kadir pleaded guilty to the charges and was ordered to pay an additional Ksh 600,000 as operational costs.

The 150 cows were forfeited to the KWS. The other suspect Yakub Mohammed Bona denied ownership of the herd, pleaded not guilty and was remanded in police custody.

The cows are under the custody of KWS.
