Three people have been killed and eight others seriously injured in a banditry attack in Baragoi town, Samburu County.
The injured are admitted at Baragoi district hospital.
The victims were shot on Sunday evening at Suyan area in an ambush that has heightened tension in the area.
Cattle rustling and clashes over grazing and farming land are relatively common between the Turkana and the Samburu communities and often escalate into revenge attacks.
Two months ago, three people including a 14 year old boy were shot dead by suspected cattle rustlers.
In 2012, the country witnessed one of the worst fatalities in its history following the massacre of 38 police officers in Baragoi.
The police officers were part of an operation to recover stolen cattle when they were ambushed in a valley by the rustlers who fired on police, leaving dozens dead and many injured.
