Two dead, scores injured in Webuye road accident

Two women Wednesday afternoon died on the spot after a truck veered off the road along the Webuye- Bungoma road.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck which was heading towards Eldoret from Bungoma lost control ramming into a bodaboda shed where the two met their fate.

Scores of other people were injured in the accident which occurred at St Joseph’s Church junction in Webuye town and were rushed to Webuye Sub-County Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Mercedes Benz, Reg no, KDC 239 E escaped from the scene after the accident occurred.

Webuye East OCPD Valerian Obare while confirmed the incident however said the driver had been arrested by police officers who were hot on his trail after his escape.

“We are investigating the cause of the accident and we caution drivers to be cautious while driving in this rainy season,”

Jacob Machacha, a resident called on the Kenya National Highway Authority to erect bumps on the busy road adding that many accidents had taken place at the same spot which he termed as a blackspot.
