Two police officers arrested over killing of boy

Two police officers have been arrested in connection with shooting to death of 16 years old Nicholas Munyoki, a standard seven pupil.

The incident that took place at Kanginga Village Mwingi Central Sub-County in Kitui County left the villagers in shock.

One of the officers is said to have shot the boy during an altercation between the officers who had accompanied Kitui County law enforcement officers who had accosted sand harvesters at Mwingi’s River Tyaa

The two officers appeared before Mwingi Senior Principal Magistrate Kibet Sambu. The prosecution requested the two officers be detained for five more days to give more time to the police to complete their investigation.

The two are being held at Mwingi police station waiting to appear in court.

The boy was shot dead on Wednesday leaving a shocked village in Kitui.

John Kisimbe, a resident and a distant relative to the deceased and who was at the scene of the crime said that the officers fired four times but the boy was shot twice.

Kisimbe said after the incident, the officers fled from the scene while the villagers struggled to take the injured boy to Mwingi Level IV Hospital

Area police boss Gerald Barasa while confirming the incident said the two officers were based at Kitui West Sub-County.
