A man and a woman have been arrested for trafficking 1,705 sticks of bang worth a street value of 682,000 Kenyan shillings during a sting operation by police in Shanzu area Mombasa County.
Mombasa police boss Johnston Ipara said the two identified as Cynthia Achieng and Fredric Ogutu were arrested in a house in a 11am raid on Monday.
The duo were arrested and taken to Central police station and will be appear in court Tuesday.
The lady between 42-45 years old is said to have transported the consignment from Migori over the weekend, while the man was to help in distribution to their known consumers.
“This consignment was brought down from Migori and target market was Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale counties where business is thriving,” he added.
According to police, the lady was arrested by officers and was released on a cash bond.
Ipara said the police will make a special appeal to the court in Mombasa to ensure she is fully charged.
The bang was stashed in two bags and was also sprayed with toilet perfumes to control the scent emanating from it which made it hard for authorities to find out whether it was inside the two bags.
“It will not be business as usual, we have stated a tough operation, we want my mid of this year to ensure we reclaim the glory of Mombasa,” said Ipara.
