Uhuru appoints 7 Court of Appeal judges recommended by JSC

President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed seven Court of Appeal judges as recommended by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

The announcement was made in a gazette notice date July 19, 2022.

The seven include Justice Kimaru Luka Kiprotich, Gachoka Paul Mwaniki, Lady Justice Achode Lydia Awino, Justice Ochieng’ Frederick Andago, Justice Mativo John Mutinga, Lady Justice Ngenye Grace Wangui and Lady Justice Aroni Abida Ali.

In a statement last week, Chief Justice Martha Koome, who is also the Chairperson of JSC said the names had been forwarded to President Uhuru Kenyatta for consideration.

“After lengthy deliberate and careful consideration of the performance of the various candidates and based on the Constitutional imperative of merit, gender, regional balance, affirmative action and public interest, the JSC recommended their appointment,” CJ Koome said.

JSC advertised for the vacant positions of Judges of the Court of Appeal on 14th March, 2022.

The commission finalized interviews for the vacant positions on Wednesday, marking the tenth day.

Prof. (Dr.) Sifuna Nixon Wanyama, Siganga Beauttah Alukhava, Hon. Lady Justice Muchemi Florence Nyaguthi were the last three candidates to be interviewed.

All thirty candidates shortlisted by the Judicial Service Commission were interviewed.
