Uhuru attends State Funeral of former Zambia President Kenneth Kaunda

President Uhuru Kenyatta has on Friday arrived in Zambia for the State funeral of Zambia’s founding father Dr. Kenneth David Kaunda.

Among the leaders attending the funeral include; Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi, Botwana’s Mokgweetsi Masisi, former Tanzania Head of State Jakaya Kikwete, and Namibia’s President Hage Geingob.

The first President of Zambia died on 17th, June 2021 at the age of 97. He had served as the president following independence in 1964 up to to 1991 when he lost the election to Frederick Chiluba.

After being admitted to the Maina Soko Military Hospital, Dr. Kaunda spent a few days in the hospital before passing away due to a short illness.

Several global Heads of State joined the Republic of Zambia in giving the final rites to Dr. Kaunda at Lusaka Show Grounds in Zambia.

Kenneth Kaunda has been eulogized as a man a great leader among the many founding fathers of Africa. He advocated for policies and agendas that would benefit the whole nation.

Kenneth will be remembered by the citizens of Zambia and Africa at large as a warrior, a leader who was not afraid to fight for the freedom of future generations. He supported other African leaders like the late Nelson Mandela in his efforts to end apartheid in South Africa.

The founding father of Zambia lived a phenomenal and fulfilling life.
