Uhuru owes me no political debt, Ruto insists

Deputy President William Ruto has yet again reiterated that no one owes him a political debt.

In an apparent reference for calls to have his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta, back his bid for the country’s top job in 2022, the country’s second in command maintained there was no prior agreement for the same.

He said the only debt he has is that of helping President Uhuru Kenyatta unite and transform Kenya.

“I supported President Kenyatta in 2013 and 2017 without conditions. The Head of State should not be pushed to supporting my 2022 candidature,” he said.

According to Ruto, leaders keen to occupy the country’s topmost political office should not seek to be endorsed but rather have their track records speak for them. He said this will be the basis of the voters’ judgment in the next election.

“We have a development track record that speaks for itself. We must seek leadership endorsement from the people based on ideas and programmes.” He said

According to DP Ruto who was on a tour of Trans-Mara, Narok County, the Jubilee administration under his leadership and that of President Kenyatta has done so much to Kenyans since it ascended to power in 2013.

“I have made sure that we have fulfilled our promise for more roads, electricity, and water supply to our people.” He said

He hit out at ODM leader Raila Odinga over what he termed as an attempt to paint Jubilee in a bad light especially as far as fulfilling its promises are concerned.

“Raila keeps saying Jubilee has done nothing and it is my responsibility to remind him that he is lying,” Ruto said

The Deputy President said he would not allow Kenya to be taken back to ethnic-based politics that is not only risky but dangerous to the social fabric of the country.
