The US Embassy in Nairobi has issued a travel alert for US citizens who wish to leave the Country to do so Wednesday night saying there shall be no other opportunity to leave in the near future.
In a series of tweets the US Embassy said, “We understand from the Kenyan government that there are no plans for flights after midnight tonight (Wednesday). If you wish to depart Kenya, this will be your last opportunity for an indefinite period of time.”
The Embassy further notified US citizens that Kenya Airways has indicated it will offer a flight for U.S. citizens and U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents departing JKIA Wednesday night, at 2100 hours, provided it can sell all the seats on the flight.
It will be a direct flight to John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, at a cost of $3350 on economy class while the price of a business class ticket will be $4000.
There are 30 Business Seats available as well as 204 Economy Seats and Kenya Airways intends to close the booking and paying process six hours before departure time, 1500 hours March 25.
The Embassy says the decision is informed by the March 22 announcement, by the Government of Kenya indicating it plans to suspend all international flights in and out of Kenya effective midnight Wednesday night.
