The Independent electoral and boundaries commission has announced that the Wajir West constituency by-election will be held on April, 25, 2019.
In a gazette notice published Monday IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati said Political Parties intending to participate in the by-election must submit the names of their candidates and the date of the party primaries on or before February, 11.
Chebukati further said a public officer who intends to contest must resign from public office within seven (7) days of the declaration of the vacancy which in this case is February, 1.
He said the Commission shall publish, in the Gazette, the names of the persons contesting in a party primary and the date of the party primary within seven days of receipt of the names of the candidates.
The chairman said candidates intending to participate in the by-elections as independent candidates should not have been members of any political party at least three (3) months prior to the date of the by-election.
The Wajir West seat fell vacant after the Supreme Court nullified the election of Mohamed Kolosh last month.
In a petition filed by KANU candidate Ibrahim Adrirahman, Justice Francis Tuiyot ruled that Ibrahim was not validly elected adding that the election was not done in accordance with the law.
