In a historic victory, Linet Chepkorir Toto of UDA has been declared the Bomet woman representative. At 24, Chepkorir will be the youngest of these Women Representatives from the 47 counties.

She garnered 242,775 votes to beat eight candidates, some of them experienced politicians.

Speaking after being awarded her certificate, Linet thanked the people of Bomet and promised to work tirelessly for them.

“I am happy the people of Bomet trusted and supported me, and gave me their votes. I will not take it for granted,” she said.

The role of County Women Representatives in Kenya is primarily to represent the women and girls in their counties. The role is the outcome of the two-thirds gender law that aims at increasing the representation of women in parliament.
