Wiper Democratic Movement has resolved to support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s governance agenda.
The decision making organ of the Kalonzo Musyoka-led outfit further unanimously adopted a proposal to support the national unity initiative that brought together President Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga, which it says, has restored much-needed stability in the country.
The party lauded the head of state and Odinga for setting aside their political differences paving way for the country to move towards development.
Ever since the March 9th handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga, tension had been simmering in the opposition with claims that Odinga did not consult his co-principals in NASA before arriving at the decision.
For this reason the Wiper Democratic Party, whose leadership had not taken a formal stand on the handshake, convened a meeting on Saturday to chart a way forward and resolved to throw its weight behind the Building Bridges Initiative.
The party says this move was necessitated by the fact that the country was finally moving in the right direction after the coming together of the two leaders.
In the same spirit, the party says it will back all governance efforts spearheaded by President Kenyatta, including the ongoing war against runaway corruption
The latest turn of events according Kalonzo will also enhance the party’s chances of ascending to leadership in 2022.
On the situation in the NASA coalition, Kalonzo called for a ceasefire between ODM and FORD Kenya arguing that there is no justification for animosity within the opposition umbrella.
