Wiper’s Edith Nyenze clinches Kitui West seat

Edith Nyenze of Wiper party is the new MP for Kitui West Constituency. She takes over from her husband Francis Nyenze who died last December.

She garnered 14,372 votes representing 72.67 per cent of the votes cast against her closest challenger Dennis Mulwa and Independent candidate who came a distant second with 2,046.

Robert Mutiso of Narc Kenya came third with 1,784 votes while Fridah Mutwii of Kenya National Congress and Elijah Kilonzi of Chama Cha Mapinduzi came forth and fifth after managing 1,075 and 499 votes respectively.

A total of 19,874 people turned out to vote out of 52,042 registered voters which represent 38 percent with 98 votes being rejected as spoilt.

In her victory speech, Edith Nyenze called for reconciliation and urged those who lost to support her in achieving the pledges she made to the people of Kitui Central during the campaigns.

The seat fell vacant after Francis Nyenze succumbed to colon cancer last December.
