Wizkid becomes first Nigerian to debut on Billboard top 100

The world is obsessing over Essence.


The song ‘Essence’, by Wzkid featuring Tems has this week made its debut on USA’s billboard top 100 songs. This comes a a huge win for African music and Afrobeats specifically as the song took the number 82 spot. Billboard is an American magazine and website that produces news, video, opinion, reviews, events, and style related to the music industry. It is known for its music charts, including Billboard top 100, tracking the most popular songs and albums in different genres.

This is Wizkid’s third time appearing on the Billboard charts and Tem’ first entry. Wizkid first debuted on the charts in 2016 actually topping it at number one with the song ‘One Dance’ and in 2019 with the song ‘Brown Skin Girl’ at number 76.

“Essence’ is off Wizkid’s ‘Made in Lagos’ album which was released in October last year. Billboard chart rankings are based on sales, radio play, and online streaming in the United States.
