Fatuma ‘Iron Fist ‘ Zarika retained her World Boxing Council (WBC) women Super bantamweight title after outlasting Zambian Challenger Catherine Phiri.
Zarika won after a 3-0 unanimous decision to retain her title on Saturday night at KICC, Nairobi.
The judges, Michael Neequaye, Fillemon Mweya and Irene Semakula gave their scores as 98-92 99-91 97-93 sending KICC into a frenzy.
Zarika said that Phiri has had the last chance to snatch the title from her.
Elsewhere, Kenya finished at the second position in Group F table of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after Harambee Stars narrowly lost by a solitary goal to Ghana at Accra Sports Stadium in the last group match.
Ghana finished at the top of the group with nine points with both teams now focusing on the continental showpiece that will kick off this June in Egypt.
Harambee Stars, having already qualified for the continental showpiece set to kick off on 19th June this year in Egypt, came to the match needing at most a point to seal a top of the table finish.
The hosts broke the deadlock in the second half after settling for a barren draw in the first.
Caleb Ekuban scored the solitary goal slipping past goalkeeper Patrick Matasi’s fingertips.
Meanwhile, national men’s under 23 years team kicked off training camp at Kasarani stadium ahead of the second leg Africa U23 Cup of Nations cum Olympics Qualifier against Sudan slated for this Tuesday.
The Kenyan team will be seeking to overturn a 2-0 deficit in order to make it to the third round.
