Five of Kenya’s most promising ICT students have arrived in China to take part in Huawei’s flagship Seeds for the Future 2025 program, scheduled to run from 21st to 26th July 2025.
This prestigious global initiative is designed to develop the next generation of digital leaders through immersive training, cross-cultural exchange, and industry exposure.
Seeds for the Future offers participants a comprehensive ICT education, featuring more than 40 cutting-edge courses in emerging technologies such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, and Digital Power.
The program also includes industry-relevant training focused on sustainability and green technologies, ensuring students are prepared to navigate and lead in an increasingly digital and environmentally conscious world.
Beyond technical knowledge, the program prioritizes holistic professional development. Participants receive leadership training, career preparation support through résumé workshops and mock interviews, and gain access to a global network of ICT experts and a vibrant alumni community.
A core component of the program is global cultural exchange, fostering collaboration among participants from around the world. This element promotes the sharing of diverse perspectives and best practices, helping to build international understanding and cooperation essential skills in today’s interconnected society.
The program also delivers tangible industry impact by addressing the digital skills gap in local markets, accelerating innovation, and supporting sustainable development through strategic use of technology. This contributes to building inclusive, digitally capable economies across the globe.
Representing Kenya in this year’s cohort are: Shem Machii Ngunjiri from Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, Sophy Cherono Rop a student at United States International University–Africa (USIU-A) and Huldah Mwihaki Kaura from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
Others are Moi University’s Mungai Erick Gachuhi and Samuel Ochor Ogeno from the University of Nairobi.
The Seeds for the Future 2025 program offers participants a rich and immersive experience, blending advanced technological training with cultural exploration and global networking.
One of the key highlights is the Advanced ICT Training, where students engage in hands-on sessions covering emerging technologies such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, and Digital Power. These sessions are designed to provide practical skills and deep insights into the technologies shaping the future.
Participants also gain exclusive behind-the-scenes access to some of Huawei’s most innovative spaces. This includes guided tours of the company’s Research & Development centers, technology exhibition halls, and a visit to the renowned DJI factory, offering firsthand exposure to cutting-edge innovation in action.
The program fosters global networking opportunities through participation in high-level forums and discussions, such as the roundtable on Opportunities for Entrepreneurship and Careers in Artificial Intelligence. These engagements allow students to connect with industry leaders, experts, and peers from around the world, expanding their professional horizons.
In addition to the technical and professional aspects, the program emphasizes cultural exchange. Participants experience an immersive journey that blends China’s rich traditions with its modern technological advancements, fostering greater cross-cultural understanding and appreciation.

Since its inception in 2008, the Seeds for the Future program has empowered over 15,000 students from more than 140 countries with the digital skills and global perspective needed to succeed in the tech-driven future.
