Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has congratulated Malawi’s President-elect Peter Mutharika on his victory, describing it as a landmark democratic triumph for Africa.

Gachagua stated that the election represents more than just a national success; it is a bold declaration that Africa is rising. He praised the Malawians for demonstrating that the ballot remains the most powerful tool for change, adding that their decision should inspire other African nations.

“Malawi has reminded us that African citizens are awake. They see. They feel. They think. They act,” Gachagua remarked, noting that Kenya can draw strength from Malawi’s example as it prepares for the 2027 elections.

“Just like our Malawian brothers and sisters, we must reject fear and cynicism, reject hopelessness, and reclaim our future through democratic means,” he said.

He also commended outgoing President Lazarus Chakwera for conceding defeat and congratulating Mutharika, stating that this reaffirmed the supremacy of the people’s will.

According to Gachagua, the “era of oligarchy and strongmen has collapsed” under the weight of the people’s power expressed through the ballot.
