Kwale County Governor Fatuma Achani has presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the cabro paving of the Salvation Army–Market Road in Kinango Town, Kinango Sub-County.
The project, under Kinango Municipality, aims to improve urban infrastructure and stimulate economic growth.
Speaking during the event, Governor Achani said the project reflects her administration’s commitment to enhancing road networks within municipalities and trading centres across Kwale County.
“The cabro paving will not only improve mobility but also create a cleaner, more organised and business-friendly environment for residents and traders,” she noted.
The county government is also planning complementary projects, including the installation of street lighting along the Salvation Army–Market Road and the erection of 16 streetlights along Soweto Road, among others.
Her sentiments were echoed by Kinango MCA Richard Itambo, who termed the project a milestone in easing movement for pedestrians, motorists, and traders, while also improving drainage and reducing dust and mud during the rainy season.
“I urge the contractor to engage registered limited companies owned by women, youth, and persons living with disabilities in the area as a way of creating job opportunities,” he said.
Residents, led by Rehema Kalumu, thanked the county government for the project, noting that it will boost business by attracting more customers and easing the transportation of goods to and from the market.
“This project is a timely investment that speaks directly to the needs of the people. By improving access and transport, the county government has not only strengthened local trade but also empowered small businesses to thrive and connect more easily with customers and suppliers,” she added.
Apart from Kinango, the County Government is also improving infrastructure in Kwale, Diani, and Lungalunga municipalities.
