The Judiciary has confirmed the death of a man who collapsed within the Bungoma Law Courts compound on Tuesday morning.
In a statement, the Judiciary said the man, described as elderly and visibly unwell, arrived at the court around 9am on a motorcycle to attend a matter before the Environment and Land Court.
“It is with sadness that the Judiciary reports an incident at Bungoma Law Courts where a man, who had a matter before court, died while within the court precincts,” the statement read.
The Judiciary indicated that the man was issued with a Priority Card, a document given to elderly persons, expectant mothers, people with disabilities, and those who are sick to help them receive expedited services.
He reportedly chose to wait for his advocate outside the court buildings, where he lay on the grass as he waited with his brothers.
However, when a court official went to update him on the progress of his case, he was found unresponsive.
Police officers were called to the scene and confirmed that the man had died.
The body was later taken to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital Morgue.
“The man’s name has been withheld to allow the next of kin to be informed. The Judiciary extends its condolences to his family,” the statement added.
