Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has arrived in Lomé, Togo, ahead of a fresh round of African Union-led peace talks aimed at stabilising the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Kenyatta, who is part of the AU facilitation team, landed in the Togolese capital alongside fellow co-facilitators former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde, former Central African Republic President Catherine Samba-Panza and former Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi.
The team was received by Togo’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Professor Robert Dussey, ahead of a working session focused on advancing the AU-led mediation framework for the eastern DRC peace process.
Also present in Lomé is the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.

The meeting is expected to review progress made so far and explore pathways for de-escalation amid persistent insecurity in eastern Congo, which has been marked by armed group activity and regional tensions.
Kenyatta is serving as one of the co-facilitators in the African Union-led mediation process for the eastern DRC, which brings together regional and continental actors seeking a political pathway to end the conflict.
