China has strongly condemned the European Union’s decision to include several Chinese companies and financial institutions in its latest round of sanctions against Russia, describing the move as “unjustified” and detrimental to China-EU relations.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce expressed “strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition” to the EU’s 18th package of sanctions, which targets Chinese firms for allegedly supporting Moscow’s war efforts.
“Despite China’s repeated representations and clear opposition, the EU has gone ahead with unilateral measures based on unfounded accusations,” the Ministry stated, adding that such actions lack any basis in international law and have not been authorized by the UN Security Council.
The Ministry warned that the listings would have serious negative consequences for economic and trade relations between China and the EU and urged Brussels to “immediately reverse its wrongful practice.”
“China will take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of its enterprises and financial institutions,” the Ministry concluded in its statement.
