Have you ever wished you could book a ride to visit the Nairobi National park, the same way you order a ride home? Well, with the launch of Uber Safari, Nairobi residents and visitors can now experience the wild side of the city with just a few taps on their phone.

Speaking during the launch this week, Imran Manji, General Manager for Uber in East Africa, said that tourism was important to Kenya’s economy and the company wanted to build on that.

“Tourism plays a vital role in Kenya’s economy, and with Uber Safari, we are excited to be unlocking new ways for people to connect with our incredible wildlife heritage,”he said.

How it works

Intrigued? Here’s how to order an Uber Safari

  • Open the Uber app and go to Uber Reserve.
  • Pre-book either a Day Safari (morning or afternoon) or a Night Safari.
  • Get picked up from your location in a safari-ready Land Cruiser, complete with a licensed guide.
  • Enjoy a three-hour adventure through Nairobi National Park, spotting lions, giraffes, rhinos, and more, then get dropped back in the city.

What it costs

Pricing is designed to be competitive with traditional safari packages. Speaking to the media, the company said that a day trip costs KSh. 25,000 for up to seven people, while night safaris would cost KSh 40,000 for up to five tourists.

Timings and when to go

  • Morning Safaris (6 am–9 am): Best for catching big cats before the heat sets in.
  • Afternoon Safaris (3 pm–6 pm): Great light for photography.
  • Night Safaris: A rare chance to see nocturnal wildlife

What to pack

  • Binoculars for bird and animal spotting.
  • Camera or phone with enough storage — you’ll want to capture everything.
  • Light jacket, as mornings and evenings in the park can get chilly.
  • Water and snacks. However, if the trips are short enough, these may be unnecessary.

During the launch of the ride share app’s new product, Uber’s VP emphasised how combining tech and tradition could provide impactful solutions.

“Uber Safari is a symbol of how technology and tradition can come together to deliver meaningful impact… offering riders experiences they will never forget,” Anabel Díaz, Vice President for Uber in Europe, Middle East and Africa said.
