2019 champions Algeria pipped Burkina Faso by a solitary goal courtesy of their captain Ryad Mahrez to sail through to the round of 16 at the ongoing 35th AFCON in Morocco on Sunday.
The Group E match was played at the Prince Moulay Hassan in Rabat.
Algeria won the group on 6 points, followed by Burkina Faso and Sudan on 3 points apiece.
Earlier on Sudan defeated Equatorial Guinea 1-0 to send the West Africans home for the 2nd time in the group stage after losing two matches.
In Group F, defending champions Ivory Coast were held to a 1-1 draw by Cameroon in an entertaining fixture in Marrakech Stadium.
Amad Diallo scored for the Ivory Coast before Ghislain Konan put the ball in his own net four minutes later.
Both teams are tied on 4 points, a point ahead of Mozambique, who shocked Gabon 3-2 to eat their first AFCON victory.
Algeria,joined record 7 time champions Egypt and Nigeria, in the last 16 stage as Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Botswana are already eliminated.
