Athletics Kenya and Betika have partnered to host a 15-kilometre road race in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County, this Sunday, May 12th, 2024.
The goal of the road race is to put competitors’ speed, stamina, and will to the test. It provides an opportunity for both seasoned pros and amateurs to shine on the renowned Iten roads, which are referred to as the “Home of Champions.”
Excitingly, long-distance running veterans like Helah Kiprop and John Korir are predicted to enter the road race field, raising the bar for competition and providing motivation for upcoming runners.
The event is highly anticipated by Athletics Kenya, the organisation that oversees athletics in Kenya.
Athletics Kenya, the governing body of athletics in Kenya, has expressed their excitement for the race, stating, “The Iten 15km Road Race is a testament to Kenya’s rich sporting heritage and the spirit of resilience ingrained in our athletes.
The top male and female runners will get a cash reward of Sh250,000 as a token of appreciation for their exceptional performance, signifying their commitment to excellence and dedication. Sh150,000 and Sh100,000 will be awarded to the second and third place finishers, respectively.
“At Betika, we believe in empowering athletes and fostering a culture of healthy competition,” said Mutua Mutava, Managing Director of Betika, in response to the race.

The Anti Doping Agency of Kenya will undertake stringent test on the winners afterwich prize will be awarded.
