Just a day after finishing 2nd in the 2025 AFCON, Morocco has shot up to the 8th position in the FIFA rankings released yesterday, as the African champions also moved up to 12.
The Atlas Lions become the 1st African side to occupy the position and have broken into the top ten for the 1st time since 1998.
The North Africans moved up 3 positions, dislodging Belgium (9), Germany (10) and Croatia (11).
African champions Senegal move up 7 positions to 12th.
AFCON bronze medallists Nigeria (now 26th) and quarter-finalists Cameroon (now 45th) each shot up an unparalleled 12 places.
Additional ranking success stories served up by the African showpiece include notable rises for Algeria (28th, up 6), semi-finalists Egypt (31st, up 4), dethroned holders Côte d’Ivoire (37th, up 5) and Congo DR (48th, up 8).
The top three positions remain unchanged, with Spain leading, followed by world champions Argentina, while France is 3rd.
