Two teams which will square it off at the final of the 8th edition of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship are set to be determined today as the tournament returns with semis in Kampala and Dar es Salaam.
Last edition bronze medallists Madagascar will face Sudan in the first semi at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, atkickoff.
The Barea of Madagascar finished as runners-up in Group B with 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss, before knocking out co-hosts Kenya 3-2 in penalties following a 1-1 draw in the last 8 in Nairobi last Friday.
Sudan’s Falcons of Jediane, on the other hand, topped group D on 5 points with 2 draws and a 4-0 victory over Nigeria, then went on to eliminate Algeria 4-2 after a 1-1 stalemate.
The last semi will pit defending champions the Teranga Lions of Senegal and two-time champions the Atlas Lions of Morocco at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda, starting at 8:30pm.
Senegal also remains undefeated in the tournament, having finished 2nd in Group D with 5 points with 1 win and 2 draws before knocking out co-hosts Uganda by a solitary goal in the quarter-final to set up today’s meeting.
On the flip side, Morocco won 3, drew 1 and lost 1 match to finish 2nd in Group A, after which they bundled out co-hosts Tanzania 1-0 in the quarter-final.
Winners of today will meet in Saturday’s final at the Kasarani stadium in Nairobi, while losers will battle for the bronze medal on Friday in Namboole stadium.
