Youth leaders from around the world will convene in Tshwane, South Africa, for the Y20 South Africa Pre-Summit, a high-level hybrid forum taking place at The Innovation Hub from 18 to 19 June 2025.
Organized under the auspices of South Africa’s G20 Presidency, the summit will kickstart essential policy discussions that will shape the official Y20 communiqué and inform the wider G20 agenda.
Taking place during South Africa’s Youth Month, the Pre-Summit will bring together delegates from G20 member states and beyond, placing young people at the forefront of global policy transformation. The event provides a platform for youth voices to influence decisions on critical issues such as economic inclusion, digital equity, climate justice, and multilateral reform.
Inspired by the spirit of the 1976 Soweto youth uprising, the summit serves as both a reflection of history and a catalyst for future change. Delegates will participate in focused policy working groups, cultural exchanges, and high-level plenaries, with options for both in-person and virtual attendance.
“This isn’t just another youth gathering — it’s a declaration of intent. African and global youth are stepping up with the bold ideas and leadership required to co-create a just, inclusive future.” Y20 South Africa said in a statement ahead of the summit.
Key themes during the summit include; Decent Work & Economic Growth, Digital Equity, Innovation & Skills Development, Climate Justice & Environmental Sustainability, Meaningful Youth Participation & Multilateral Reform, as well as Inclusive Social Development & Tackling Inequality.
The Pre-Summit represents a crucial step towards the Y20 Summit later this year, laying the foundation for inclusive global governance that reflects the aspirations of the world’s largest youth generation.
