Huawei today unveiled the “Digitalization White Paper for the Energy Industry” at the Huawei Kenya Energy Summit 2025 in Nairobi. The document presents a detailed roadmap for the digital transformation of Kenya’s power sector.

The white paper acts as a strategic guide for integrating smart technologies, enhancing grid resilience, and promoting the adoption of clean energy solutions to sustainably meet the country’s increasing energy demands.

The White Paper outlines a four-pronged strategy for transforming the energy sector. It highlights the development of digital green power plants through end-to-end digital twins and remote intelligent control; automated and smart monitoring-driven intelligent power grid inspections; multi-source self-healing distribution networks that utilize digital technologies for autonomous fault detection and recovery; and the integration of diverse energy sources to create smart campuses that optimize efficiency and sustainability.

Together, they demonstrate how digital innovation can modernize infrastructure, improve grid reliability, and facilitate Kenya’s shift towards a resilient, intelligent, and low-carbon energy ecosystem.

“Huawei Kenya Energy Summit 2025 signifies a significant advancement in Kenya’s energy digitalization journey,” stated Opiyo Wandayi, EGH, Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum, during his opening remarks.

“We applaud Huawei’s role in driving digital energy transformation through smart grids and renewable energy integration. Kenya remains dedicated to achieving universal access to clean, reliable, and modern energy by 2030, powered by innovation, collaboration, and sustainable technology,” he said

The launch of the white paper convened key stakeholders from Kenya’s power and energy sectors, along with ecosystem partners, to discuss the digital solutions shaping the nation’s energy future. Topics included the application of smart grids, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing to boost grid stability, operational efficiency, and renewable energy integration.

Benjamin Muoki, Manager of Telecommunications and Service Delivery at Kenya Power, highlighted the company’s ongoing digital transformation efforts aimed at improving operational efficiency, customer experience, and network reliability. He underscored Kenya Power’s investments in advanced technologies, such as a 100G national fibre backbone, SCADA automation, and cloud-based systems, which are driving innovation and supporting Kenya’s move towards a smarter, greener energy future.

Samuel Cheng, Managing Director of Enterprise at Huawei Kenya, reaffirmed Huawei’s commitment to accelerating Africa’s transition to clean and intelligent energy.

“Digitalization and innovation are redefining the energy landscape, with Kenya standing at the forefront of this transformation. Together with ecosystems partners, Huawei is shaping a smarter, more sustainable energy ecosystem for generations to come,” he said

Through the initiative, Huawei undertook to share global expertise, foster collaboration, and support Kenya’s national energy objectives. The Digitalization White Paper provides actionable insights to assist stakeholders in modernizing infrastructure, optimizing resource use, and driving sustainable growth within the country’s energy sector.
