The push to increase voter turnout ahead of the 2027 General Election is gaining momentum across the country, with Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials and political leaders intensifying calls for mass registration.
Youths, who form a significant voting bloc, are now being urged to take advantage of the ongoing 30-day voter registration exercise as counties race to meet their targets.
Migori County IEBC Election Manager Ben Moseti lauded the progress made so far in the ongoing nationwide enhanced voter registration drive, but emphasized the need for more inclusive participation.
However, he raised concerns over a growing number of youths attempting to register using waiting cards, urging the National Government to fast-track the issuance of national identity cards to enable them to enlist as voters.
Meanwhile in Mombasa County, mobilization efforts have intensified to encourage more residents, particularly young people, to register as voters.
IEBC is targeting to register at least 183,000 new voters in the county ahead of the 2027 polls.
