The Government has assured both Kenyans and visiting fans of tight security and seamless travel ahead of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) matches set to kick off this weekend.
Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen stated that the country is fully prepared to host the tournament, describing it as a “historic moment” and a key test run for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking in Kajiado on Friday, the CS detailed a series of comprehensive measures in place to guarantee safety and smooth logistics. These include: 24-hour surveillance through modern CCTV cameras; special immigration desks at airports and border crossings; online ticketing to reduce queues and prevent stampedes; increased hotel surveillance and police patrols; and the deployment of tourist officers to assist visitors.
Emergency medical services will also be on standby.
Murkomen also confirmed that Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums — the two CHAN hosting venues — had been completed on schedule and were ready after a final inspection by top security and interior officials.
To ease regional travel between Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania during the tournament, the Ministry has introduced a special pass to expedite clearance at borders. Travellers from most regional countries will not require a visa, and those from select Caribbean nations will be assisted upon arrival.
He urged fans to arrive early at stadiums to avoid congestion and emphasized that no unauthorized or armed persons will be allowed into the venues.
The CS also rallied Kenyans to turn up in large numbers to support Harambee Stars and other matches throughout the championship.
Murkomen was accompanied by Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, and other leaders during his 24th Jukwaa la Usalama engagement.
