Kenyan businesses will not be affected by the business order Tanzania imposed on non-citizens in July this year.

East African Community (EAC) Affairs Principal Secretary Dr Caroline Karugu said the move follows conclusion of negotiations of the Business Licensing (Prohibition of Business Activities for Non-Citizens) Order 2025 which Kenya had protested.

“The United Republic of Tanzania reported that so far, no Kenyan business has been affected by the order and further reassured no Kenyan business will be affected in future,” said Dr Karugu.

Kenya protested the order for contravening key provisions of the EAC Common Market Protocol which guarantee the free movement of people, goods and services.

“We further encourage Kenyan nationals running businesses in Tanzania to engage the Kenyan High Commission in the event of any distress and for information,” she added.
