Kenya, UK deepen healthcare partnerships to drive investment, innovation

The government has reaffirmed it’s commitment to positioning healthcare as a driver of economic growth and innovation.

Speaking at UK–Kenya Business Forum Healthcare Roundtable held at Serena Hotel, Nairobi, the  Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga highlighted the ongoing health financing reforms, including the transition to Social Health Insurance, and the role of blended finance and public–private partnerships in mobilising sustainable capital.

The forum under the theme “Healthcare as a Strategic Growth Sector: UK–Kenya Partnerships for Delivery, Innovation & Investment.”

The forum held under the theme ‘Healthcare as a Strategic Growth Sector: UK–Kenya Partnerships for Delivery, Innovation & Investment’ convened government officials, UK representatives, development partners, investors, and private sector leaders, providing a platform for policy–industry dialogue to unlock investment opportunities and strengthen partnerships in support of Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.

Dr. Oluga outlined opportunities for UK firms in healthcare supply chains, logistics, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, infrastructure development, and digital health, while underscoring the importance of healthcare digitisation under the Digital Health Strategy and workforce development through skills training and specialist capacity building.

The roundtable concluded with a shared commitment by Kenya and the UK to advance a modern, inclusive, and digitally enabled health system that improves health outcomes and positions Kenya as a regional healthcare and manufacturing hub.
