The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has secured a conviction against Joseph Kihara Kaburugu for uttering a forged academic certificate in an attempt to gain employment at Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd.
Investigations by the Commission revealed that Kaburugu had presented a forged Diploma Certificate in Sports Science Management, purportedly from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
Upon conclusion of the investigations, the file was forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who approved charges of forgery and uttering a false document.
Kaburugu was arraigned on January 21, 2025 before Chief Magistrate Harrison Barasa at Miliman Anti-Corruption Court, where he denied all the charges.
After the trial, the court on 30th September 2025 found him guilty of uttering a false document contrary to Section 353 of the Penal Code.
He was, however, acquitted of the forgery charge under Section 215 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
On 2nd October 2025, the court sentenced the accused to a fine of Ksh 100,000, or in default, one year imprisonment.
