Newly crowned world 800 m champion Lillian Odira has been promoted from prisons constable to sergeant ahead of tomorrow’s Kenya Prisons Service Inter-Regional Cross Country Championships in Ruiru.

Odira, who bagged her first global title over the two-lap race and broke a 43-year-old championship record in Tokyo last month, was honoured with the promotion today by the Commissioner General of Prisons, Patrick Aranduh.

The 26-year-old will now shift her focus to next year’s Summer Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Prisons Service will conduct its annual inter-regional cross-country championships at the Ruiru Prisons training college, where they will select a team for the National cross-country championships set for Eldoret on the 25th of this month.
