The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has suspended grassroots elections slated for next week in selected areas.
This follows orders issued by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal on Friday, April 4, halting the exercise in various branches and sub-branches.
Those affected include East Kamagak Ward in Kasipul Constituency, Homa Bay County, while elections in other sub-branches will proceed as scheduled.
The elections for the Kasipul Branch scheduled for Wednesday, 9th April 2025, have also been suspended.
In a statement, the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) said it would announce new dates in due course.
The exercise will also not take place in Embakasi East Constituency following complaints.
“Additionally, NECC has received a significant number of complaints from Embakasi East Constituency. In order to address these concerns adequately, the elections scheduled for Monday, 7 th April and Wednesday, 9th April 2025 in respect of Embakasi East Constituency are hereby suspended”, the committee stated.
Meanwhile, party leader Raila Odinga is calling for peaceful elections. He emphasized that the grassroots elections are not a do-or-die affair and urged members and aspirants to participate in an orderly manner.
Speaking in Mombasa, Raila said the party needs everyone on board and that the polls should not divide them.
