The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested three persons linked to the violence and destruction that occurred during the June 25 protests.
DCI announced Saturday that John Mulingwa Nzau, also known as Garang, Mark Amiani, known as Generali, and Francis Mutunge Mwangi, alias Chebukati, were apprehended on Friday while travelling on a Mombasa-bound bus in Konza City as part of an intelligence-led operation.
“Among others who have already been identified and are being pursued, the suspects had planned to hole up at a coastal hideout to evade police dragnet, oblivious that justice would catch up with them sooner or later,” the DCI stated
According to the DCI, the suspects allegedly used social media and coordinated networks to incite violence, looting, and widespread destruction of property, undermining public order and the constitutionally guaranteed right to peaceful assembly.
“They will be arraigned in court Monday. Several charges including malicious damage to property, arson, stealing and incitement to violence and disobedience of the law may be preferred,” the DCI confirmed.
The agency condemned their actions, stating that they betrayed the legitimate intentions of peaceful protest and instead jeopardized national stability and public safety.
