Voting in at Kasipul Constituency continued smoothly in most parts after polls opened at 6AM with many voters queuing ready to cast their votes.
While the voting exercise kicked off on time without any irregularities, chaos ensued at 11 o’clock where warring factions attempted to disrupt the process.
At Agoro Sare Primary School polling centre, supporters of two of the top candidates, Boyd Were of ODM and Philip Aroko, an independent candidate, clashed leading injury of Homa Bay Town Constituency Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma.
Kaluma who is the chief agent for Boyd Were was roughed up by goons leading to displacement of his firearm.
Elsewhere, chaos also erupted at Kosele Primary School polling centre after goons disrupted polls forcing voters to scatter.
The fracas at the polling centre forced police officers manning the station to fire in the air to disperse the rowdy youths.
In one stream, at Kosele polling centre there was evidence low voter turnout where one polling station had a turnout of 36pc while another reported a turnout of 30pc.
The situation of low voter turnout has also been recorded at Nyadiwa Primary polling centre where one station had 15pc voter turnout.
The Kasipul Constituency by-election attracted 10 candidates who are seeking the position which was left vacant after the assassination of Ong’ondo Were in April this year.
The polls are expected to be closed at 5PM today with tallying set to be done at Agoro Sare High School.
