The United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Country Attache, Karl Ash, has commended the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for its consistent cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking, particularly in Kenya’s coastal region.
During the visit to the ODPP’s Mombasa office, Ash, recognized the long- standing cooperation between the DEA and the ODPP. He pointed to the significance of this partnership in handling complex, cross-border narcotics cases, particularly along Kenya’s coast, which has long been identified as a transit point in drug networks.
He also reaffirmed the DEA’s commitment to supporting future technical partnerships and joint initiatives. He was accompanied by officials from the US Embassy in Kenya and the Directorate of Criminal Investigation(DCI)
Acting Coast Regional Coordinator, Kernael Nyawinda, highlighted the importance of capacity building and at the same time proposed joint training initiatives with the Anti- Narcotics Unit(ANU), aimed at improving investigative and prosecutorial outcomes.
Also present at the engagement was ANU Head, Samuel Laboso, who emphasized the value of prosecution guided investigations and also timely and effective justice delivery.
