Almost two weeks since the abduction of Wajir County MCA Yusuf Hussein Abdi by unknown people in Nairobi his kith and kin are calling on the Inspector General of Police to use all the tricks in the book to resolve the intricacy of the abduction.
The Della Ward MCA and Wajir County Assembly Minority Leader was reportedly abducted by armed people in Nairobi on 13 September at night on Enterprise Road while heading to his home in Pangani from South C.
“Up to now there is no clue of his whereabouts,” said Adan Issack, Wajir nominated MCA in Mombasa, adding that they want justice for the abducted MCA.
The Head of State was urged to keep his promise of ending abductions and extra-judicial killings.
“We are tired of harassment, extrajudicial killings and mysterious abductions no one can say how it happened. We are governed by the rule of law, if the person has made a mistake he should be taken to court within 24 hours, if he is guilty he will be sentenced or freed if not guilty,” stated Issack.
He further called upon all MCAs in all the 47 County Assemblies to stand with their abducted colleague as it can happen to them also.
“Our honourable colleagues from other county assemblies kindly show solidarity with your colleague. Let’s ask the government where they have taken this guy,” he stated.
On his part, Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) Treasurer Sheikh Hassan Omar, said they don’t know if the MCA was arrested by the government or criminals. They want him to be produced in court if he is held by the state.
“His kith and kin and the electorates don’t know where Yusuf Hussein is.We appeal to the government to ask if Yusuf Hussein is in their hands, they must tell us where he is and if he is alive or dead,”
Abdi Ibrahim said they are dismayed by the abduction of the Della Ward MCA and want the law to be followed.
“If our brother has made a mistake or has questions to answer the State can produce him in a Court of Law. The state has a right to arrest anyone, at any time anywhere but the question arises when the person has been abducted, it is not known who abducted him,” stated Ibrahim.
He added that there is a resurgence of abductions that must be tamed by the Head of State.
“If an elected can be abducted what of the ordinary citizen? If the State is not aware of his abduction, how safe are we? We are asking the State to take action, in less than 24 hours we need to know the whereabouts of our brother,” said Ibrahim.
On her part, Jamila Ibrahim wants the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to know who abducted the elected MCA as they no longer sleep at night. They want him to return to good health and continue serving his community in Della.
“It is disheartening we don’t know the whereabouts of our son. We want the government to intervene,” said Ibrahim, her eyes welling in tears.
