The Stallions of Burkina Faso are set to make their fourth appearance in the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) after participating in 2014, 2018, and 2020 but haven’t progressed past the group stage.

Burkina Faso defeated Côte d’Ivoire in the last round of qualifications to dramatically earn their spot at CHAN 2024.

The Stallions staged remarkable comeback in the rematch after losing 2-0 in Abidjan in the first leg to seal their ticket.

Burkina Faso won 4-2 in the penalty shootout after goals from Aboubacar Traoré and Alain Kanté tied the overall score.

To improve their tactics this year, they will draw on their tactical discipline and the knowledge they acquired from competing in the 2025 Mapinduzi Cup.

The Coach-Issa Balboné

Issa Balboné, who was appointed head coach of Burkina Faso’s CHAN and U23 teams in April 2024, has made an immediate impression.

Balboné, who is renowned for his tactical flexibility, had crucial role in overcoming Côte d’Ivoire’s deficit throughout the qualifiers.

Experienced in Burkinabé football, Balboné has led prestigious teams such as Canon du Sud, AS Police, and USFA.

Additionally, he assists Brama Traoré for the senior national squad, which reflects his crucial contribution to the nation’s football endeavours.

The Stallions are in a fairly  group B alongsise Tanzania,Mauritania,Madagascar and Central Africa .

Burkinabe will play the tournament opener against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on the 2nd of August.

Player to watch:Aboubacar Traoré 

One of the main players in Burkina Faso’s offence is 26-year-old attacker Aboubacar Traoré (AS Sonabel).

His ability to soar gives his game a new dimension and makes him a continual danger to opposing opponents.
